The MPs are silent
IGP CD Wickramaratne states that OICs and divisional officers have been appointed to all police divisions where incidents of burning houses and damaging property have been reported recently under the influence of politicians.
He has stated this at a recent meeting of the Sri Lanka People's Front Parliamentary Group chaired by the President.
Several members of parliament had accused the IGP of not taking proper action regarding the arson and property damage incidents.
The IGP has asked several of the MPs who had accused him of appointing police officers in charge of divisions in the areas where the politicians live, even though they had stated that they were unfit for the post, but had not pressured them to do so.
The IGP has stated that such situations have not arisen anywhere in the area where there are local police chiefs who have been appointed under their supervision with proper qualifications.
At the same time it was further reported that the members who had blamed the IGP at that meeting had remained silent.
