If a 70 year old person rapes a child, it should not be published in the media, says the Speaker

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today said that if a 70-year-old man sexually abuses a 6-year-old child, it should not be reported as news.

He was speaking at a workshop for journalists in Parliament.

He said there was a growing public opinion that all 225 members of parliament should be sacked and that the crisis could not be resolved by ousting members of parliament.

He pointed out that the crisis could be resolved by educating the media.
