"Influenza is on the rise among children"

There is an increase in the number of influenza cases being reported in Colombo and surrounding areas, said Dr. Deepal Perera, a specialist at the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital.

He told the media that the disease was on the rise, especially among children.

He pointed out that the main symptoms of the disease were fever, body aches, coughs and colds, and that some children had fever and epilepsy.

He therefore called for the continuation of health practices such as social remoteness and hand washing.

Mr. Perera said that masks should be worn in public places such as hospitals, schools, day care centers and public transport.

“When we had a cold, a cough, a fever, we used to think Kovid. But these days, the flu has begun to spread. So it is good that we are aware. Influenza can spread very easily. ”

He said if a child has symptoms, they should be kept at home.

He pointed out that such children should be given paracetamol in moderation and that they should be treated with lukewarm water to reduce fever.

Specialist Dr. Deepal Perera said that a quick recovery can be achieved by giving more natural liquid foods and allowing the baby to rest.

However, he urged the parents to be hospitalized for medical treatment if they had difficulty breathing and did not eat.
