Revises the minimum age for Sri Lankan women to go abroad for domestic work

Cabinet approval has been granted to revise the minimum age for Sri Lankan women to go abroad for domestic service related jobs to 21 years.

The current minimum age for Sri Lankan women to engage in domestic and domestic work abroad was 25 years for Saudi Arabia, 23 years for other Middle Eastern countries and 21 years for other countries.

A Cabinet Sub-Committee chaired by the Minister of Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reforms was appointed on 6 June 2022 to study the matter and make recommendations to the Cabinet on the revision of the age limit in view of a proposal made by the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment. It was decided at the board meeting.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved to revise the minimum age for domestic and domestic employment of Sri Lankan women to 21 years, taking into account the recommendations made by the relevant subcommittee.
