"The Government of India extends its fullest support to Sri Lanka as a close friend" - Indian Foreign Secretary


Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra has said that the Government of India will extend its fullest support to Sri Lanka as a close friend in overcoming this difficult situation, the Presidential Media Unit said.


He was speaking at a meeting with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Palace in Fort on the morning of June 23.


Sri Lanka has so far received essential food items including fuel, medicine and fertilizer under Indian loan assistance.


The delegation said that the Government of India and the Political Authority were committed to continuing to assist Sri Lanka in this regard.


The President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Government of India and the people of Sri Lanka for the significant role played by the Government of India in assisting Sri Lanka in difficult times.


The two sides discussed at length the future course of action of the Indian assistance program to stabilize and revive the Sri Lankan economy and expressed confidence that the country would recover soon after the difficult period.
