13 people have been arrested in connection with the incident of attacking the fuel station in Wellawaya town yesterday (July 5) night.


The suspects are aged between 18 and 45 and are residents of Passara, Ataliwewa and Wellawaya.


The police mentioned that when the fuel was being dispensed at the filling station, after informing the people who had come to get fuel that the fuel had run out, the concerned group protested and attacked the fuel station with stones and bottles.


A police officer was injured in the incident and the name board of the petrol station was also damaged.


Police said that 13 suspects and 20 motorcycles have been arrested in connection with the incident.


The suspects are to be produced in the Wellawaya Magistrate's Court today (July 6) and further investigations are being carried out by the Wellawaya Police.
