A proposal from private bus owners to increase bus service

Ceylon Private Bus Owners' Association says that if fuel is given priority to private buses through Sipetco or cooperatives, they will be able to run buses at 50% capacity by the next day.

Its chairman Gemunu Wijeratne stated that the fuel provided by Langama depots for private buses is not enough.

"Today, due to the shortage of petrol, the public transport service must be strengthened. If fuel is released tomorrow, give it to us immediately on priority basis for private buses.”

He further said that due to the fuel crisis, it was possible to run a maximum of 15% of buses in the past days.
