A Turkish cargo plane accident at Katunayake airport


A cargo plane belonging to Turkish Airlines Accident at Katunayake Airport  July 3 - night while preparing to return.


This is an A-330-300 Airbus cargo plane belonging to Turkish Airlines.


The plane had arrived at Katunayake Airport on July 03 at around 09.00 pm carrying a load of goods from Istanbul, Turkey.


The plane in question carrying a load of clothes weighing 45 metric tons was preparing to depart from Katunayake Airport on July 3 at around 11.30 pm for Istanbul, Turkey.


Due to the strong wind conditions at Katunayake Airport and its surrounding area, a container that was brought to be loaded onto this aircraft, after the SriLankan Airlines airport operators did not apply brakes properly and parked near the concerned aircraft, the container flew towards the aircraft. This accident happened when was carried away by the fast wind and its engine collided.


Due to the related incident, the engine number 02 on the right side of this plane has been damaged.


It is reported that the Turkish aviation authorities have not yet taken the necessary steps to restore the damaged engine or leave Katunayake airport.
