A warning to the public from public health inspectors

Upul Rohana, President of the Association of Public Health Inspectors, warns that there is a risk of an unexpected disaster in the future.

He mentioned that there is a risk of the new variant of Covid-19, which is spreading worldwide, entering Sri Lanka.

He requested the general public to follow the health guidelines again as the covid epidemic has not ended and there is a risk of it spreading in the country in the future.

Mr. Rohana mentioned that it has not yet been confirmed whether this new variant of Covid has entered the country.

Commenting further on this, he said:

"Countries like Japan, Australia, Pakistan, Vietnam and India have seen a significant increase in cases. The number of deaths has also increased significantly. Therefore, Sri Lanka has become a very dangerous situation. Until now, no antigens or any tests are conducted at any point of entry in Sri Lanka.

Therefore, we are not sure if this new Omicron variant has entered the country? no? regarding. But we come across suspicious patients with certain symptoms. The investigations necessary to confirm it are not happening in Sri Lanka at this time."
