Another shipment of rice from China for the food needs of school children

The Ministry of Education has recently handed over 1,000 metric tons of rice, which was the second stock of rice provided to Sri Lanka by the People's Republic of China for the school feeding program.

Taking into consideration the factors of poverty and nutritional deficiencies, students have been selected for the school meal program and the amount of Rs.30/- allocated for one meal has been increased to Rs.

Accordingly, the Health and Nutrition Division of the Ministry of Education will take steps to properly implement the school meal program and the Ministry of Education said that the amount of rice to be received in the future will also be provided to the schools.

This stock of rice has been donated as part of the program which provides 10,000 metric tons of rice for the food needs of 11 lakh children in 7,900 schools for a period of 6 months.

Its first batch was donated to Sri Lanka by China on June 28.
