Cabraal is upset over Anura's revelation: says legal action will be taken !

Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal has issued a statement regarding the allegations made against him at a media briefing.

He has stated that the information revealed by the Leader of the JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake in 2014 that he had paid US $ 6.5 million to Imad Zuberi, a US CIA agent, without proper approval was false.

He said that the payments made by the Central Bank in 2014 as the State Banker were made on the written and official instructions of the Government and were not made at the sole discretion of the individual.

Mr Cabraal said the payments included payments made by the government at the time for various promotional programs in the United States by Zuberi and the companies he represented.

He said the payments were made on the basis of written and official instructions given by the government and the approval of the relevant government authorities, and that the payments and procedures of the Central Bank had been followed.

Therefore, the US $. He pointed out in his affidavit that the Central Bank had not committed any procedural or other breach of rules or regulations in making payments of Rupees. 6.5 million to Suberi and related companies.

However, Mr. Cabraal said in a statement that observers were now indebted to certain political groups for accusing him of fraudulently making these payments privately and causing a loss to the country.

He points out that although these teams investigated all these transactions in depth for almost 5 years from 2015 to 2019, after doing so they were unable to point out any omissions or violations of the law.

Therefore, it is very clear that no legal authority has been able to launch any legal action against him during those five years, he said in a statement.

However he acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Obama's political agenda.

He further stated that he categorically denies the allegations and will take appropriate legal action against the perpetrators of the revelations and will take legal action against those involved in the 'disgraceful activities'.
