IGP CD Jayasinghe said that the reason for the public's frustration with the police was the intense politicization of the police in the recent past. Mr. Wickremaratne has stated this in a letter to the retired Major General Jagath Alwis of the Ministry of Public Security.
The letter described how the police had become politicized over a short period of time.
According to the letter, out of the 184 OICs who were given OIC posts under the government from 01.01.2011 to 03.11.12021, only two OICs have been given the post with proper qualifications.
This letter reveals that the IGP had informed the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security in writing three months ago that the remaining 182 OICs had been appointed on political power without their recommendations.
