Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has sent a letter to the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa.
The letter states that the decision to appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister could not be reversed after discussions with other party leaders in Parliament, who had refused to take over as Prime Minister.
However, the President has stated that if the solution to the current economic and political crisis is considered a national interest and that the Samagi Jana Balawega agrees to include some members of the party in the new cabinet to be appointed in the future, he should take immediate action.
The letter further stated that the appointment of a new cabinet could not be postponed at a time when the country is facing a serious political and economic crisis and appreciated the swift response of the Leader of the Opposition.
