An announcement was made by the Presidential Media Unit during a discussion chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa this morning (May 25) to review the progress of the program to direct skilled workers to foreign employment markets.
Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion Manusha Nanayakkara has stated that public servants should be given the opportunity to apply for foreign employment in a manner that does not affect seniority.
The Minister further stated that they can be encouraged by providing vehicle licenses, housing loans and facilities for school children for foreign remittances and the embassies should focus on creating employment opportunities through intervention.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has pointed out the need to implement language and vocational training programs targeting job vacancies in Japan, Poland and Romania for skilled workers in various fields.
Accordingly, in the face of the current economic downturn, special attention should be paid to foreign exchange and foreign employment opportunities and the creation of skilled workers could lead to higher employment opportunities, he said.
The Bureau of Foreign Employment has pointed out that there is a high demand for nursing services in many countries, including Europe.
In Japan alone, there are more than 350,000 job vacancies in the adult care and catering industry, and Japanese language proficiency is required, the bureau said.
Accordingly, the President further stated that Japanese language literacy programs should be implemented expeditiously with the participation of the public and private sectors, including the National Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Authority, the Vocational Training Authority and the Bureau of Foreign Employment.
