With the heavy rains, it is reported that hydro power generation has increased to 60 percent of the daily electricity generation.
This is as low as 18% due to the recent dry weather.
Five provinces are already receiving heavy rains due to the intensifying southwest monsoon.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts yesterday as well as today.
Water levels in many reservoirs are rising with the rains.
Water levels in Maussakelle, Castlereagh, Laxapana and Samanalawewa reservoirs and in the central hills of Victoria, Randenigala and Kotmale reservoirs had also risen significantly due to rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission Janaka Ratnayake stated that there will be no power cuts today as well.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department warns the people living along the Kalu Ganga, Gin Ganga and Kuda Ganga rivers to be vigilant due to the heavy rains.
The Met Department predicts 100 mm of showers in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in some places in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
The Department also urges the public to take necessary measures to reduce the risk of temporary strong winds and lightning during thunder showers.
