Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced in Parliament that steps would be taken to suspend the distribution of food to the 53 members of the Sri Lanka People's Front (SLPP) who had stated that they would not receive food from the Parliament canteen.
The Speaker said that the party leaders would discuss at the meeting whether the decision would apply to the other members.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told parliament that he had received a letter signed by 53 members of the Sri Lanka People's Front (SLPP) refusing to eat at the Parliament canteen.
Accordingly, he stressed that steps would be taken to suspend the provision of food at the Parliament canteen to the Parliamentary group.
Sri Lanka People's Front (SLPP) MP Sampath Athukorala has demanded the closure of the canteen and the provision of a reasonable package of food if a member wants a meal.
Sajaba Colombo District Member of Parliament SM Jayasinghe has requested that the actual cost be disclosed when Parliamentary sessions are held and when Parliamentary sessions are not held. Marikkar asked the Speaker.
