Message from the United States as soon as Ranil became Prime Minister !

The United States has welcomed the swearing in of Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister.

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung has stated in a Twitter message that she is looking forward to working with Ranil Wickremesinghe.

She noted that the appointment of a new Prime Minister and the immediate appointment of a new Cabinet were urgent steps needed to resolve the crisis and build stability.

"I urge the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to make significant progress and to establish a long-term plan to meet the needs of Sri Lankans," she said in a statement.
