Nedungamuwe Raja's conservation work halted !

Conservation work on the remains of the Nedungamuwe Raja Elephant, which has been declared a National Heritage Site, has come to a standstill, according to sources from the National Museums Department.

The sources further point out that the conservation work has been halted due to the failure to reach a final decision on the location of the body.

Nedungamuwe Raja, the elephant king who carried the coffin, died on March 7 at the age of 69. The Museum Department planned to preserve and prepare Raja's remains, and it received state sponsorship.

According to a museum official, the museum officials have removed the elephant's skins and preserved them, but there are still problems with the location of the burial site.

He also said that the preparation of the design should be started soon as it could not be pulled to the exact size especially in the case of over-the-top preparation of the existing archives.

He further stated that proposals have been received for two sites for its construction but one site has not been identified.
