The United National Party (UNP) has launched a protest in front of the house of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo.
Police have also been deployed for its security.
People carry placards with the slogan "Go Home Ranil" and other slogans.
Our correspondent said that another group had come to the scene in support of Ranil Wickremesinghe and protested against the protest.
Meanwhile, Ranil Wickremesinghe stated in a statement in Parliament recently that a group including Parliamentarian Shanakiyan Rasamanikkam was preparing to hold a protest in front of his house.
