Shashi Weerawansa's bail application postponed


Shashi Weerawansa's lawyers have filed a bail application for the release of Shashi Weerawansa tomorrow (May 31).


Colombo Chief Magistrate Amarasinghe has also issued a notice to the Attorney General asking him to explain his position on the request.


Shashi Weerawansa was sentenced by the Colombo Magistrate's Court on Friday (May 27) to two years in prison and fined Rs. 100,000 for possessing an illegal diplomatic passport.


Accordingly, Shashi Weerawansa's lawyers filed an appeal against this last Friday.


Ms. Weerawansa's lawyers had requested for her release on bail pending the outcome of the appeal and the final verdict.


Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala had ordered that the appeal be called today (May 30).
