The speaker cannot slip: what the speaker said at the end of the impossible !

Samagi Jana Balawege parliamentarians demanded that the Speaker take immediate action against the no-confidence motion against the President and the government and against the attacks on protesters by the Inter University Students' Union.

The group surrounded the Speaker's office.

Later, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena entered the House and addressed the House.

He said a meeting of party leaders had been convened next week to discuss the no-confidence motion.

"We have called a meeting of the party leaders at 10 am on Monday. If we can discuss at that meeting, we will convene the House of Commons within the same week or on the 17th of next week without fail. We call on the protesters to carry out this protest peacefully.

The police will be summoned by the IGP next week for a full report. Parliament will adjourn until 10 a.m. on May 17. "
