The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the people have been severely affected by the recent violence and Hartals in various parts of the country that have changed the face of the peaceful struggle.
The ministry said it had observed protesters behaving in a provocative manner on several occasions, disregarding the common law of the land, disrupting the duties of security personnel and threatening them.
As a result, the Ministry of Defense has stated that it has become very difficult for the people to maintain the essential services required for their daily lives.
Accordingly, in view of this emergency, the President has declared a state of emergency and all should act wisely and patiently to maintain law and order in the country, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
