The state of emergency imposed recently due to the crisis in the country has been lifted after midnight on May 20.
On May 6, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa declared a state of emergency in the country through a special gazette notification.
It is up to Parliament to enact and enforce the state of emergency, which must be submitted to Parliament by the President for approval within 14 days of enactment.
However, it was canceled after 14 days without being presented to Parliament.
