Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda, a Sri Lankan researcher and botanist and zoologist, has been awarded the coveted 'Linear Medal' as the Nobel Prize in Natural Sciences.
This is the first time a Sri Lankan has won the medal, which has been awarded annually by the Linear Society of London annually since 1888 to distinguished botanists and zoologists around the world.
Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda is the second Asian to win this medal.
He has studied freshwater fisheries in Sri Lanka and is an accomplished researcher who has authored numerous books and articles on botany and zoology.
