Center for Human Rights seeks declaration of assets of Dhammika Perera:

The Center for Human Rights in Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has requested the Elections Commission to obtain a declaration of assets and liabilities of businessman Dhammika Perera before declaring him a National List MP.

Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon, a member of the center, has made this request in a letter.

It states that a candidate under the Parliamentary Elections Act is required to submit his declarations of assets and liabilities to the Election Commission after submitting a nomination by a National List candidate.

In both the 2015 and 2020 general elections, he pointed out in his letter that none of the candidates who did not declare their assets and liabilities with their nominations were given the candidate ID and lost all other privileges.

Accordingly, he further stated in his letter that he believes that the Election Commission will follow the procedure of its predecessors this time as well.

Meanwhile, the gazette notification regarding the appointment of Dhammika Perera as a National List Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka People's Front has been published.

The Elections Commission has approved the gazetting of Dhammika Perera's nomination for the post of National List Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka People's Front.
