Family health workers are preparing to give birth at home when pregnant mothers cannot be hospitalized due to the impending fuel crisis.

Devika Kodithuwakku, Chairperson of the Government Family Health Service Officers' Association, said that family health workers are preparing to give birth at home when pregnant mothers cannot be hospitalized due to the impending fuel crisis.

The Chairperson also said that family health workers are committed to assisting and caring for pregnant mothers in the hospital as well as in the field as they work in the field.

He also said that family health workers are preparing to provide facilities to a mother who is expecting a baby at home, in the field or at any time, considering that the current situation in the country is already causing some transportation difficulties in rural areas.

Ms. Kodithuwakku added that the decision was taken as the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has delegated permission and authority for abortions in hospitals as well as anywhere.
