The Russian President's reply to a letter sent by former President Maithripala Sirisena to Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at resolving the controversy over the Russian Aeroflot aircraft was also conveyed to the former President.
Russia's agencies and airlines are considering resuming Aeroflot flights, which were suspended after the Aeroflot flight was grounded at Bandaranaike International Airport on June 2, the Russian president said in a statement.
In the message, the Russian President has emphasized that the Sri Lankan side will consider the possibility of a recurrence of such incidents with a written assurance.
The Russian ambassador also told the former president that he hoped the Russian government would discuss the matter with the Sri Lankan president and government and give a positive answer.
The ambassador also said that he hoped that former President Maithripala Sirisena would intervene to obtain the written certificate required for the resumption of Aeroflot flights as soon as possible.
