Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed's revelation about Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will have to wait until the end of this year to obtain a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), says Dr. Harsha de Silva, Member of Parliament for the United Front.

Harsha de Silva said that a group of IMF staff would be in Sri Lanka tomorrow for talks and that they would sign an IMF staff agreement in a month or two.

He noted, however, that it was not possible to withdraw money from the agreement.

"In order to get money, the IMF board has to approve the loan agreement. It takes a lot of work to do that. That means changes have to be made in fiscal management. Simply put, government revenue has to be increased. We have to reduce the cost. We have to think about subsidies. Above all, we have to move towards a positive program that restructures those debts. It is not easy. ”

He further stated that no country in the world has come to the aid of Sri Lanka so far.

He was referring to a revelation made to him by former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed, who has been appointed as Sri Lanka's special envoy to buy fuel from other countries.
