The agreement was signed by Nirmith Narendra Wade, General Manager, EXIM Bank of India on behalf of the Government of India.
The Government of Sri Lanka has requested a loan from the Government of India to import 65,000 MT of urea fertilizer to meet the immediate demand for urea fertilizer during the Yala season.
In response to that request, the Government of India has agreed to provide a loan of US $ 55 million for the purchase of urea fertilizer from India.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka H.E. Mr. Gopal Bagle was also present.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has also joined the event.
