Is Minister Bandula planning to take Sri Lanka back a few decades?

The Ministry of Transport has taken steps to popularize cycling as one of the solutions to the transport problems that have arisen due to the fuel crisis in the country.


Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport will take steps to popularize cycling for school children in areas outside the city and encourage people traveling by train to Colombo to cycle from their homes to the nearest railway station and park it safely at the railway station.


Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardena has stated that the Sri Lanka Police and the Sri Lanka Institute of Engineers are working with other agencies involved in cycling to introduce new lanes for the safety of cyclists.


The Minister also said that park & ​​ride centers should be set up on seven main roads leading to Colombo and park and ride centers should be set up at all railway stations to reduce the daily flow of traffic to Colombo. .


Minister Bandula Gunawardena has stated this at a meeting held at the 'Maga Neguma' Medura of the Ministry of Highways recently.
