"It is important to obey the aspirations of the youth," the foreign minister told the Human Rights Council

Sri Lanka is open to engaging with the Diaspora community and civil society organizations dedicated to the well-being of the country, External Affairs Minister Prof. GL Peiris said. Says Mr. Peiris.

The Minister was addressing the 50th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva today (June 13).

He said the international community was aware of the serious social and economic situation facing Sri Lanka in recent weeks.

He said the situation was exacerbated by the current global crisis, including the epidemic, and that the focus of the protests was on demands for economic relief and institutional reform.

The Minister pointed out that in recognizing these challenges and embracing them all, it is very important to abide by the aspirations of the youth.
