Some changes to public transportation: Park & Ride again


The Minister of Transport Dr. Bandula Gunawardena says that steps have been taken to implement a special program to use public transport more effectively and efficiently.


Addressing a media briefing, the Minister said that this program is being implemented with the aim of minimizing the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the increase in transport fares and transport costs during the economic crisis.


Mr. Bandula Gunawardena stated that this program will be implemented from June 15.


Accordingly, a new high speed luxury train service has been introduced from Colombo to Kandy.


The train will leave Colombo at 5.20 am daily and reach Kandy at 8.14 am.


The train will leave Kandy at 4.50 pm and reach Colombo at 7.40 pm.


Also, a new office train service has been introduced on the Kelani Sand Road from Waga to Colombo.


The new office train will leave Waga Railway Station at 6.20 am and reach Colombo Fort at 8.12 am.


The train will leave Colombo Fort at 4 pm and reach at 5.43 pm.


Meanwhile, a special weekend express luxury train from Mt. Lavinia to Jaffna is scheduled to commence on the 17th.


It will leave Mt. Lavinia at 10 pm on Fridays and reach Jaffna at 5.30 am the next day.


The train will leave Jaffna at 10 pm on Sundays and reach Colombo Fort at 5.30 am on Mondays.


The Colombo-Anuradhapura Express Express, which was started as a pilot project, will be converted into a regular train service.


The train will leave Colombo Fort at 4.15 pm and reach Anuradhapura at 8.15 pm.


The train will leave Anuradhapura at 3.45 am and reach Colombo Fort at 8 am.


Meanwhile, 20 new school buses will be operational on all access roads to Colombo from the 15th.


Steps are also being taken to increase it from 20 to 50 in a month.

Those arriving in their personal vehicles from home can park at Makumbura, Katubedda and Kadawatha on the morning of the 15th and enter Colombo by luxury buses.


Accordingly, luxury buses will ply from the above locations from 6.30 am to 8.00 am every 10 minutes.


Also operated every 15 minutes from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm from Colombo to Makumbura, Katubedda and Kadawatha destinations.

Luxury buses are set to be operational.


Luxury buses from Makumbura, Katubedda and Kadawatha to Colombo and from Colombo to the above destinations will be operated every hour from 8 am to 6 pm.
