Johnston released on bail

Former Minister Johnston Fernando who surrendered to the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has been released on two sureties of one million rupees each.


MP Johnston Fernando surrendered to the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court.


The Court of Appeal granted this order when MP Johnston Fernando filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal today seeking an injunction restraining his arrest.


Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage had on June 8 issued a warrant for the arrest of MP Johnston Fernando in connection with the May 9 attack on Galle Face protesters.


He is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday for the trial of Johnston Fernando.


In addition, the writ petition filed by him is scheduled to begin on the 21st.
