Paper for printing textbooks and exercise books from Tamil Nadu


Education Minister Susil Premajayantha has said that 65 million rupees worth of Indian loan assistance will be used to import textbooks and textbooks for printing in Tamil Nadu within the next three weeks.


Speaking to the media in Kandy, the Minister said that the quantity of paper, ink and other materials required for printing has been calculated and the relevant information has been communicated to the Ministry of Trade, the Treasury and the Indian High Commission.


He said that although the Embilipitiya and Valachchenai factories used to produce paper some time ago, now the relevant material has to be imported.


Scholarship and GCE Advanced Level examinations will be held this year and steps will be taken to provide the results of the GCE Advanced Level and GCE Ordinary Level examinations as soon as possible. Accordingly, question papers will be prepared and special workshops will be conducted island wide in August and September for the students who sit for the GCE Advanced Level examination and action will be taken to restore the education that was missed, he said.


He said that reports would be received from all the universities regarding the problems and that steps would be taken to resolve those issues and that this issue has already been discussed with the Inter University Students Federation.
