Prime Minister's decision on the Governor of the Central Bank


The recommendation to extend the tenure of Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has been forwarded to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.


The term of office of the current Governor of the Central Bank is due to end tomorrow (June 30).


The Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has previously stated that he did not assume the post of Governor of the Central Bank for a period of two months.


Speaking to the BBC World Service, he said he had informed the authorities that he was interested in continuing as central bank governor.


Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe assumed duties as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in April.
