Ranil speaks about the United Nations' call to the world on behalf of Sri Lanka


Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the United Nations is ready to make an open appeal to the rest of the world to assist in providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka.


The Prime Minister made this remark in a special statement in Parliament on June 7.


Mr. Wickremesinghe said he had discussed the matter with representatives of international organizations such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Program, the United Nations Development Program and the World Health Organization.


He said many people there had agreed to support and assist Sri Lanka in this difficult time.


The Prime Minister further stated that they plan to provide US $ 48 million over a period of 4 months for the food, agriculture and health sectors through this program.


"The United Nations is preparing to make an open appeal to the world on the 9th. They are requesting assistance in providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. Through this program, they plan to provide $ 48 million to the food, agriculture and health sectors over a four-month period. ”
