Rice from China for school children's food needs

China has donated 1,000 metric tons of rice to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Education.

According to the Chinese Embassy, ​​the consignment of 44 containers of rice was handed over to the Ministry of Education for distribution among Sri Lankan children.

The stock of 10,000 metric tons of rice has been donated as part of a six-month program to feed 1.1 million children in 7,900 schools.

The Chinese embassy said two more stocks of rice would be delivered next week.

In addition, the Chinese Embassy said it was in discussions with the Ministry of Education to provide uniforms to Sri Lankan school children for the New Year.
