Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed media owners that representatives of the International Monetary Fund will visit Sri Lanka on June 20.
The Prime Minister has stated that he hopes to reach a staff level agreement with the IMF by the end of June.
He also explained that he was launching a food security program in the country due to the ongoing food shortage.
The Prime Minister further stated that he hopes that through this program the government will be able to provide free food to 10% of the population who are unable to get three meals a day.
He has appealed to media owners to help the government present a true picture of the situation.
The Prime Minister called on the media to be accountable to the government when necessary, but at the same time to adopt responsible reporting.
When asked by media owners about the current situation, the Prime Minister explained that the country would have to suffer the consequences of the damage done to the economy.
However, he said the government would do its utmost to mitigate the impact by providing financial and supply assistance.
The Prime Minister further stated that a financial security network of Rupees.
The Prime Minister emphasized that countries are in the forefront in providing assistance for food and medical supplies, but no country will take steps to provide free fuel.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has further stated that he trusts the support of media institutions to build the country in the next few months.
