45 Members of Parliament have been assassinated since 1956

The number of Members of Parliament who were killed during their tenure from 1956 to 2022 was 45, MP Dullas Alahapperuma said in Parliament.

He stated, S.W.R.D. It was calculated based on the statistics of the murders from Mr. Bandaranaike to Mr. Amarakeerthi Athukorala.

Accordingly, he pointed out that every member of parliament has been assassinated every 19 months since 1956.

He added that since 1980, it has been calculated as one murder per year.

He expressed his condolences to MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala.
