The demand for liquor in the country has decreased by 30%


It was revealed at the Committee on Public Finance that the demand for liquor has decreased by about 30% due to the recent increase in the price of liquor in the country and the declining income of the people in the country.


This was revealed at a meeting of the Committee on Public Finance chaired by Anura Priyadarshana Yapa in Parliament last (June 20).


In particular, officials representing the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies, the Inland Revenue Department, the Excise Department of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Customs have been lined up online to discuss plans designed to increase government revenue and their current status. Has been done.


The officials said that there were several problems in reaching the target revenue of the Sri Lanka Excise Department due to the limited quantity of ethanol available for the production of liquor, the limited supply of diesel and fuel and the distribution problems.


They also point out that the demand for alcohol has fallen by about 30% due to rising alcohol prices and economic hardship for the people.


It was revealed that due to this there is a tendency to increase the production of illicit liquor.


The expected revenue and current status of the Inland Revenue Department were also discussed.


In particular, the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa also participated in the event and discussed with officials involved in the online process on how to change tax policies and take steps to improve tax administration.


In addition, the revenue expected to be obtained by the Excise Department of Sri Lanka this year was also discussed in detail.
