This is how the phone call charges will go up after midnight today !

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) says that telephone call charges will be increased from midnight today (June 3).

Its Deputy Director Indrajith Handapangoda stated that the reason for this is the increase in the Telecommunication Tax from midnight today.

Accordingly, the Telecommunication Tax has been increased from 11.25% to 15%.

In addition, the increase in the value added tax (VAT) from 8% to 12% will also increase telephone bill charges, he said.

Accordingly, the tax rate, which was 22.6% of the total tax rate, will increase to 31.43%, he said.

He noted that the increase in the value added tax on internet service charges would also be revised.

Accordingly, the tax will increase from 10.2% to 14.29%, he said.

Leading telephone service providers in the country have increased their call charges as well as internet service charges in line with the relevant tax amendments and have taken steps to make consumers aware of this.
