The Fort Police managed to arrest a warrant officer who was evading court for the crime of rape while he was hiding at the Galumuwedara protest site.

He was a 25-year-old resident of Ratnapura Shore.

He is the main suspect in the rape case No. HCR/111/2020 pending in the Ratnapura High Court, and open warrants were even issued due to his failure to appear before the court.

Fort police arrested him based on a tip-off that the concerned suspect, Galumuwedara, has been hiding in the Gotagogama protest site for about two months.

The suspect has been remanded after being produced before the Fort Magistrate Court and is scheduled to be produced before the Ratnapura Magistrate Court on the 12th of this month.

The court has informed the prison superintendent to submit a report in this regard on the 22nd of this month.
