Aruni Wijewardena appointed Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs !


New Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Aruni Wijewardena assumed duties as the new Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs today (23). She was appointed Secretary to the Ministry with effect from 20th May.

Foreign Secretary Wijewardene addressed the staff of the Ministry after the inauguration ceremony.

Mrs. Wijewardene has been a member of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service for 34 years. During her tenure she has held many positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, Colombo. She has also served on the Sri Lankan Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, the Sri Lankan High Commission in Malaysia and the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Philippines. She also served as Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna.

Following her appointment to the Ministry, Ms. Aruni Wijewardene also served as the Director of the Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Policy Planning Agency in Vienna.

She is a Chewing Gum student from the United Kingdom and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Western Australia and a Masters Degree from the University of Western Australia.
