The IGP and the Army Commander have been summoned to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission.
In a statement, retired Supreme Court Judge Rohini Marasinghe, chairwoman of the commission, said the two had been summoned to appear before the commission at 10.00 am today.
A statement issued by the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission said that steps would be taken to inquire into the failure to provide adequate security to the people and their homes and to uphold the rule of law.
She said the process should always be ensured and all those responsible for the violence should be arrested and further investigations carried out.
Meanwhile, the head of the intelligence unit, Major General Suresh Sale has been summoned before the Human Rights Commission next Thursday to inquire into the imposition of a state of emergency in the country, the commission said.
