Former Prime Minister and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe says that all unnecessary expenses in the budget should be cut and relief should be given to the people.
He was speaking in Parliament on May 4.
He also said that the matter should be handed over to the Fiscal Committee.
The former prime minister pointed out that an agreement must be reached within the next two to three weeks to find a political solution to the crisis.
He emphasized that the people were now in a position to reject parliament as well.
"How are our businesses doing now? These businesses are collapsing, losing money. How many people will lose their jobs in the near future? Hundreds of thousands of businesses will collapse. How can we cope there? Therefore, if concessions are made in the budget, the Sixth Way of the Budget should cut down on unnecessary expenses. We need to move forward.
