The worst incident that night will be the darkest day in the history of the country after a group of political extremists attacked the Gulface struggle in broad daylight. Property arson, vandalism, robbery, and murder all took place across the country in a matter of hours in an unimaginable way. Over the past few days, the opposition has been urging parliament to do justice to the attacks. That's true. Anyone who has been wronged should be able to seek legal redress as well as the protection of the law. But that is not the problem. When the Gulface struggle was attacked that day, many of the MPs and ministers who are talking about the law today were involved in the incident and were holding hands with them. Needless to say, it was really a problem as well as an unpleasant moment.
Clearly, however, we do not condone violence. It is a crime. We as a country have suffered immensely due to terror and violence. Violence mainly affects those who have no involvement in the violence, even more than those who initiate it. The main reason for this is that some individuals and organizations are resolving their personal grievances behind these incidents. So violence is a very serious phenomenon.
We are going to tell you a story about an institution that was severely beaten by the violence that took place on the night of the 9th. I wanted to write about it on the one hand because of how important the institution is to the country and on the other hand because of the loss of that institution. It is about the destruction of the Avenra Garden Hotel in Negombo. That is why we write about that destruction as follows.
At around 5 pm on the 9th, a group of people arrived at the Avenra Hotel and stormed it for no apparent reason. More than 1000 people who crushed everything are leaving the place as a nation that has made a great revolution. The hotel owner, Danesh de Silva, was rescued by his staff and released that day for fear of endangering his life.
However, the Avenra Hotel did not end with that attack alone. The next day, on the 10th, another mob arrived and set fire to the main hall of the Avenra Hotel for no apparent reason, as well as the Grandeza Hotel in Negombo on the same day.
The devastation at the Avenra Hotel is not insignificant. The armed group that came to destroy all the property worth billions of rupees had not been forgotten. While inspecting the area after the incident, several unbelievable incidents had taken place.
One of them was the breaking into of four safes in the head office of the Avenra Hotel. Also, one safe had been taken away. The four broken safes were said to have been smashed open for five hours and $ 200,000 and ,000 35,000 were looted. In addition, ෂ් 200 worth of gold prepared for Danesh's daughter's wedding was among the items looted. Moreover, the most serious tragedy was the crime of setting fire to vehicles which he had collected as a hobby. Two Lamborghinis, two Hummer cars, a limousine and a Benz were completely burnt to ashes. In addition, a van, a bus and even a lorry used for hotel work were set on fire.
Among the items looted was a stock of unused chairs worth millions that had been brought in for the daughter's wedding. It is said that there was Rs. 4 million in the safe which was rescued by the robbers alone. There is no reason yet for this attack, this destruction.
However, the employees have said that the people who set the hotel on fire were not the people of the surrounding area but the people of the area who had come to steal. As a result, the Avenra Hotel has issued a statement asking that the stolen items be returned immediately before the 25th. It is learned that some people are dumping stolen goods along the road. Several people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Hotel - Vehicles set on fire due to jealousy
When inquired about this, the owner of the hotel Danesh de Silva said,
'' I started this from a very young age. These are our villages, starting with Table Six. People have told me different stories since then. I'm never got it wrong. I also gave jobs to the villagers. But in this incident no one in the village came forward to protect the hotel. But when they came to set fire to Puttalam, the villagers saved it. This was set on fire by another group. To that jealousy. But the villagers picked up the goods. I'm really frustrated. I will never have contact with the village again. But I will rise again. I will not fall. My car was on fire out of jealousy. It doesn't matter. "
A house of a German couple in Negombo has caught fire. Is that yours too?
Yes my house. I rented them out with the furniture. It also caught fire. There is nothing wrong with those people. I will not fall, however. I build these things from the beginning. I will not lose anyone's job.
The Avenra Garden Hotel, which opened in 2008, is on fire today. Has become the only ash heap. Currently, the loss is estimated at over Rs 350 million. This will be rebuilt, however.
