The U.S. Air Force has revealed that a hypersonic weapon was successfully tested last weekend. The Air Force said it launched the AGM-183A Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) from a B-52H bomber off the coast of southern California on Saturday. The success of the program comes after more than a year of setbacks.
The weapon's booster caught fire long after it detached from the aircraft. This weapon can travel at five times the speed of sound. Developed by Lockheed Martin, the weapon accelerates to a maximum of Mach 20 with a rocket motor before slipping towards its target. China, the United States and Russia currently have the most advanced ultrasonic technology, and several other countries, including India, Japan, Australia, France, Germany and North Korea, which are said to have tested a hypersonic missile, are investigating the technology
