A group of (29) families including staff of 20 companies operating boat service companies close to the Bentota river bank on behalf of local and foreign tourists in the Aluthgama Bentota area protested against the release of fuel from the Aluthgama Co-operative Gas Station.
A large number of people protested near the Aluthgama Co-operative Fuel Station demanding the release of fuel for their work boats due to the decision of the authorities to release fuel only to the fuel tanks of vehicles. The group was detained at the petrol station and protested for several hours.
As a result, motorcycles, three-wheelers, vans and cars were not allowed to refuel for several hours, security sources said. Police and Army security were deployed at the Cipetco petrol station in Aluthgama.
The boat crew stated that they would not leave the area unless they had refueled themselves.
The security forces said that the decision would be taken after discussions between the two sides after receiving some advice from senior officials.
