India and Japan have agreed to work together to assist Sri Lanka.
According to Indian media reports, the Japanese government made this statement following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo recently.
The agreement was reached during a meeting on the sidelines of the Quad Summit on May 24.
According to Indian media reports, the two sides held bilateral talks on "close cooperation" to promote efforts to achieve a free and open Indo-Pacific region, in addition to cooperation in areas including defense.
In addition, security, clean energy and investment were discussed.
Following the meeting, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said that the two leaders discussed the situation in Sri Lanka and reaffirmed their cooperation on the current economic crisis and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country.
They also shared the idea of working together to develop the Indo-Pacific economic framework into a framework that will bring significant benefits, the ministry said.
