Now vegetables are also sold for dollars !

In an environment where the prices of essential commodities as well as vegetables and fruits have gone up by 100 percent, people have had to work hard to make ends meet. Not to mention that not only rice and coconut dhal sugar but also the plastic buckets and coconut shells that are on sale now are one and the same. Even with Rs. Even people who used to buy essentials at home to make ends meet twice a week are now looking for alternatives. With the story "One kilo is two dollars", the attention of the consumers also turned to this seller. I also thought it was special to see a vendor shouting two dollars a kilo of tomatoes in the midst of so many vendors shouting out the prices of vegetables. I also approached the vendor who sells a kilo of tomatoes for two dollars, passing a few people who were picking vegetables, bargaining and asking prices.

"Have you found a new art to sell vegetables?" I wanted to know from him about this amazing sales method.

“No art to sell the vegetables you have. It is difficult for us to say the current price of vegetables in rupees. It's hard for people to hear. Vegetables can no longer be sold for a reasonable price. Every vegetable counts for fire. Not only that, there is a shortage of vegetables now. Twelve times people even think about buying some vegetables. Some people carry two vegetables. There is a section among you who go back without taking anything ”

His name is Bandara and he told such a story. In fact, I thought Bandara's story was about the price of a kilo of vegetables being unspeakably high in rupees. Sri Lanka's transport and transport sector has been directly hampered by rising fuel prices. At the same time, the stocks of vegetables and fruits arriving at economic centers islandwide have also declined as a percentage, according to trade union officials at each of the economic centers. It had been reduced to between two and a half and three. The daily supply of vegetables to other economic centers was also reported to have dropped to 25 percent. Traders say the supply of vegetables and fruits to economic hubs is declining, while farmers point out that crops are losing money due to shortages of oil fertilizers and pesticides and rising prices, which could not produce the expected harvest.

In the recent past, some farmers have opted out of vegetable production as they have not been able to get even a fraction of their harvest after applying proper oil fertilizer. Farmers, suppliers, traders, wholesalers and middlemen are also facing difficulties due to the shortage of oil, fertilizers and fuel. It is a common market occurrence for vegetables and fruits to go up in price due to shortage. Hewawitharana, President of the Peliyagoda Manning Commercial Complex, said that due to the increase in the prices of vegetables, there has been a decrease in the number of people coming to buy vegetables in wholesale or retail throughout the last week.

“People come to buy vegetables and there is no fuel to refuel their vehicles. Meter fires even in a taxi. Today a situation has arisen where not even a single taxi can be found. People become helpless when they spend more money and come to the market and count the vegetables. If you can't sell vegetables and sell them, you become helpless. Now that the rains have come, some of the crops have been damaged. Even nature treats us badly. ”Traders feel that consumers, traders as well as suppliers and farmers are as helpless as ever in history. In the midst of all these crises, the black market mafia is also on the rise again. Many people think that there is no other plan but to think about how to pay for tomorrow with the problems that arise day by day.

“There is a situation where you can't buy vegetables, fruits and other essentials. Everything burns. There are no luggage in some places to buy more. We have no money. We live in fear that in a few days we will die without food or drink. We need to feed the little ones at meal time, even if we don't. I do not know what will happen to this country in the future. ” Several visitors to the Manning Mall were not optimistic about the prices of vegetables and fruits, as well as the current situation in the country.

“We feel helpless enough to hear the price of a kilo of vegetables in dollars. In a few days, when I hear the prices of goods, I have a heart attack. Even though they are sick, there is no medicine to go to the hospitals now. People do not have to eat or drink. It is useless to have a country to live in. If people can't live in that country. When will the day come when the people of our country will be able to laugh and live without being shaken? ” The whole country is looking forward to such a day.
